According to the online magazine, Gardening Etc, growing herbs has become the latest indoor gardening craze as can be demonstrated by the online searches for ‘growing parsley indoors’ having increased recently by 1,500 percent. Other herbs that are popular for growing indoors are basil, coriander, oregano, sage, tarragon and thyme. Tomatoes, chillies, strawberries and blueberries also lend themselves to indoor horticulture.

There are many benefits of indoor growing, not least of which is the positive impact on mental health and wellbeing from germinating and nurturing a plant to maturity. On top of this there is also the enjoyment gained from using herbs, vegetables and fruit that you have grown yourself.

The major challenge with indoor growing is being able to maintain consistent and suitable conditions to obtain optimal growth. In the winter, houses can become too dry because of central heating, too cold at night when the heating is off and there is insufficient direct sunlight for productive photosynthesis. Even in the summer your indoor plants often cannot get enough light to provide a good crop.

To meet this challenge, at our workshop in Surrey, we have designed and created ‘Growa’, a handcrafted, automated, indoor grow cabinet for year-round, organic cultivation. It contains everything that is required to produce a high yield of the crop of your choice. Growa is elegant, app-controlled, and will fit seamlessly into any room in any house. Wherever possible, natural, sustainable materials are used in its construction.

The cabinet is constructed from sustainably sourced, solid Oak and highest-grade Birch plywood, combined with state-of-the-art, smart components. All the interior surfaces are treated to provide a tough, durable and attractive, water repellent finish.

A large reservoir in the base, with integral pump, delivers water and nutrients to an eco-friendly, fibre, plant pot containing the soil-based growing medium. Light is provided by a highly efficient LED lamp and a silent-running intake fan circulates air within the cabinet. An exceptionally quiet extractor fan above the light is connected to a carbon filter, ensuring there are no odours exiting the cabinet. In other words, Growa is quiet, and it doesn’t smell!

Also integrated are a camera, facilitating remote viewing of the plant, together with a temperature and humidity sensor that will send data to any smart enabled device.

The watering and light cycles can be controlled by an app, enabling you to schedule, remotely, when and how much water is provided, as well the periodicity of illumination.

Furthermore, your Growa can be customised to suit the colour scheme of your home.

If you have any questions about Growa, or would like to discuss your indoor grow cabinet requirements, we'd love to hear from you...
